Revitalization of Zhanqi Village, Chengdu

In May 2025, I produced a second documentary-style video focused on the revitalization of Zhanqi Village, located in Pidu District, Chengdu, Sichuan Province. Drawing from online research and on-site fieldwork, I created the video script and explored the village’s development history in detail.

Zhanqi Village exemplifies the transformation of Chinese rural communities under the National Rural Revitalization Strategy. From traditional agricultural practices to modern technological innovations, the village represents the intersection of history and future, culture and economy, and local governance and social participation.

Through the documentary, I documented the village’s multi-dimensional progress across five key areas:

  1. Industrial Revitalization – Integrating agricultural production, processing, sales, and rural tourism to increase product value and household income.
  2. Ecological Revitalization – Implementing green development, wetland carbon trading, and ecological banking to balance environmental protection with economic benefits.
  3. Cultural Revitalization – Preserving traditional festivals and crafts while innovatively integrating them into the modern economy.
  4. Talent Revitalization – Training local farmers, attracting young professionals and agricultural experts, and fostering knowledge exchange between universities and the village.
  5. Organizational Revitalization – Promoting participatory governance, digital village management platforms, and land-rights reforms to ensure efficient and transparent administration.

The project also highlights the role of youth in shaping rural development. From university graduates applying digital technologies in farming to young entrepreneurs driving cross-sector innovations, their contributions demonstrate how modern ideas and social responsibility can transform rural life.

This project is not only a visual record of Zhanqi Village’s evolution but also a reflection of China’s broader rural revitalization efforts and the innovative approaches that sustain them. It showcases how history, policy, technology, and community converge to build a sustainable, thriving rural future.
